University Offices Reopen and Classes Resume Following Hurricane Gustav

All LSU offices and departments, classes, public events and related activities resumed on Monday, Sept. 8, following the campus closures for Hurricane Gustav, which made landfall Sept. 1, causing damage and power loss to the campus and much of the Baton Rouge area.

Because the faculty and students lost four days of the fall semester, the University has revised the academic calendar. Fall Holiday, originally scheduled for Oct. 9 and 10, is now canceled, and students will be asked to come into class on one of four Saturdays during the semester to make up the lost class time. Please check with your course instructor or dean/department head for more information on class makeup times.

LSU is updating all post-Gustav information at the campus emergency response Web site, http://www.lsu.edu/safety/ERP/academiccalchange.shtml. Please check there for updates on the academic calendar changes, building closures and other news.

The LSU EOC is monitoring Hurricane Ike, which is forecast to enter the Gulf of Mexico later this week. If emergency responses are needed on campus in preparation for that storm, all students, faculty and staff will be alerted. Please continue to regularly check the University Web site and your PAWS e-mail for the latest updates.

At CCT
•    The Louisiana Optical Network Initiative had to kill all running jobs on Queen Bee because of power loss from Hurricane Gustav. The compute nodes have been shut down. As conditions improve, Queen Bee will go back into production. LONI apologizes for the inconvenience.

•    The CCT Annex sustained roof and water damage during Hurricane Gustav. All CCT Administration staff – Business Office, Events, Human Resources, Public Relations and Grants – are temporarily working in the Johnston basement as the building is restored. The phone lines are being connected in the temporary office space, so please contact Administration staff at their usual phone numbers or by e-mail if you need to reach them.

•    The Lakeshore House, which housed LSU Public Affairs, sustained heavy damage during the hurricane. Public Affairs staff are working in the CCT’s Frey Imaginarium space. Given the extensive repairs needed at Lakeshore House, Public Affairs will likely be occupying that space for several weeks. CCT will develop a plan so researchers still can access the visualization resources in that room. CCT will provide more information on the process to use the Imaginarium viz wall and other resources in the coming days.

Pats on the Back:
