-Congratulations to Dr. Jim Lupo and Kathryn Traxler on their recent National Science Foundation grant award for the project entitled "Collaborative Research: SS2-SSI: The Agave Platform: An Open Science-As-A-Service Cloud Platform for Reproducible Science"
-Congratulations to Qin Jim Chen, Zuo George Xue, Honggao Liu, Steven Brandt, and Robert R. Twilley on their recent grant award from the National Science Foundation entitled, CyberSEES: Type 2: A Coastal Resilience Collaboratory: Cyber-enabled Discoveries for Sustainable Deltaic Coasts. The period of award is October 1, 2015 through September 30, 2019 and is expected to total $1,199,154.
-Congratulations to Chris Branton on his recent I-Corps grant award from the National Science Foundation entitled, Manufacturing Visualization. The period of award is August 15, 2015 through January 15, 2016 and is expected to total $50,000. I-Corps promotes technology transfer and entrepreneurship through an intensive seven week course designed to validate the commercial viability of proposed projects. The I-Corps team includes Chris, Mechanical Engineering undergraduate Gerry Knapp, and Visiting Professor of Chemistry (Gratis) Larry Simeral.
-Congratulations Dr. Cornelius Toole, Jr., for being selected to participate on the panel of Louis Stokes Midwest Center of Excellence Alumni Panel: Voices of Success. Dr. Toole is a past doctoral fellow and graduate research assistant that worked with the Tangible Visualization Laboratory and Scientific Visualization Group at the Center for Computation & Technology and was a doctoral student of Dr. Brygg Ullmer.
-Congratulations to Dr. Sue Brenner on her appointment as the “Infosys Visiting Chair Professor” in Mathematical Sciences at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore, India. The funding for this visiting position comes from a generous grant to the IISc from the Infosys Foundation, and will support several visits by Dr. Brenner to India over the next years.
Upcoming Lectures:
-There will be an Enabling Process Innovation through Computation (EPIC) Seminar Series lecture titled, “Ethylene Oxide Catalyst and Process Innovations” by Madan M. Bhasin, CEO (Innovative Catalytic Solutions, LLC), Chief Scientific Advisor (MATRIC). The lecture will be on Friday, September 11th at 3:30 PM in Patrick F. Taylor Hall, Room 1502.
-There will be a Computational Mathematics Seminar Series lecture titled, “Numerical Analysis of Convex Splitting Schemes for Cahn-Hilliard and Coupled Cahn- Hilliard-Fluid-Flow Equations” by Amanda Diegel, Louisiana State University. The lecture will take place on Tuesday, September 15th at 3:30 PM in the Digital Media Center, Room 1034.
-There will be a Computational Mathematics Seminar Series lecture titled, “A Two Level Additive Scharz Preconditioner for a Partition of Unity Method” by Christopher Davis, Tennessee Tech University. The lecture will take place on Tuesday, October 13th at 3:30 PM in the Digital Media Center, Room 1034.
