Pats on the Back:
-Jorge Pullin has been named a Distinguished Research Master.
-Frank Löffler coached a team of 4th-grade students from a local elementary school (WHAM) in robotics, using the Lego Mindstorms system
as easy introduction into both mechanical engineering and programming. Their team won the 1st place in "Robot Design" at the LSU First Lego
League (FLL) competition on Nov 12th 2014, advancing to the Louisiana State Finals. These were held on Dec 6th in New Orleans, where his
rockie team "Blue Mind Group" ranked 8th out of 60 participating teams from 4th up to 8th grade.
Upcoming Lectures:
-George Xue, Louisiana State University, will give a Coast to Cosmos Series lecture titled, “Modeling the Dynamics of Large River-derived Materials in the Coastal Ocean” at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, February 4th in 1034 DMC.
-Junhong Liang, Louisiana State University, will give a Coast to Cosmos Series lecture titled, “Parameterizing Air-sea Gas Transfer and Particle Sinking in Ocean Models” at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, February 4th in 1034 DMC.
-Susan Ryan will give a talk on New Media Art curatorship at the College Art Association Meeting in New York February 12. The talk will be in connection with the Leonardo Education and Art Forum (LEAF) at CAA (LEAF is an affiliate of the Leonardo International Society for Arts, Sciences and Technology). The talk at CAA is supported by a LSU Office of Research and Economic Development Faculty
Travel Grant, and the School of Art. More information here.
Please Note:
-On November 7, 2014, Governor Jindal issued Executive Order BJ 14-16 that directed executive branch agencies including higher education to cease spending in support (non-personnel) categories. A link to the Executive Order can be found at http://www.doa.louisiana.gov/osr/other/bj14-16.htm. In response, LSU has developed operating guidelines to meet the spirit of the order through June 30, 2015 in support of the state budget. These guidelines apply only to expenditures using State appropriated funds that are included in the University's 2014-15 Operating Budget and so identified with a zero (0) in the sixth digit of the account number.
