Speaker's Bio: Chun Wu is assistant specialist in chemistry and biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He received his B.S. in Chemistry from Xiamen University, China (1995); a M.S. in Analytical Chemistry from Xiamen University, China (1999); a M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Delaware (2004); and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Delaware (2005). Chun's research includes work that aims at elucidating the aggregation pathways of the Alzheimer Amyloid-beta protein implicated in Alzheimer's disease and of the IAPP peptide implicated in Type II diabetes. One of his most important contributions to the field of protein aggregation has been the identification, through fully atomic simulations, of an aggregate prone monomeric conformation on the IAPP peptide implicated in Type II diabetes. This structure could serve as a direct-precursor for fibril formation. |
