Abstract: In his talk, Cerf will summarize the present state of the Internet and make some projections for its future expansions. He will explore some of the implications of continued growth and consider the effects of Internet-enabling a wide variety of appliances and devices. Security and reliability are now paramount concerns for Internet users; he will discuss these challenges. As the Internet becomes an increasingly essential element in the communications infrastructure, policy issues regarding its use and abuse will continue to surface and Cerf will consider several of these including taxation, intellectual property protections, censorship and fraud. Finally, he will take a look at the future of the Internet. Specifically, the interplanetary expansion of the Internet in the decades to come. |

Speaker's Bio: Vinton G. Cerf is senior vice president of Technology Strategy for MCI. In this role, Cerf is responsible for helping to guide corporate strategy development from the technical perspective. In the fast moving world of telecommunications and Internet technology development, technical capabilities can have a critical impact on the success of corporate business strategies including product and service development, infrastructure investment and stratgic acquisitions and partnerships. Widely known as one of the "Fathers of the Internet," Cerf is the co-designer of the TCP/IP protocols and the architecture of the Internet. |
