In this camp students will practice simple, fun real and virtual experiments. Starting from a real world experiment, the students will design a model and a simple simulation, and then compare the experimental and the computational results. Simulations are becoming essential tools in science. They are also used as the physics engines in many games. Students will build simple simulations from scratch and will look at the math and physics behind them. This is an introductory programming course for which prior computing experience is not required. Participants will be introduced to state of the art functional programming using a graphical web-based development environment. In addition to learning some programming, students will get a boost in their math and science skills that will be useful for their fall courses.
WHO: Rising 7th and 8th grade students. No previous experience with computing is required.
REGISTRATION: $130/person. Supplies, lunches and snacks are provided during the camp. Participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from LSU's campus. Limited seats available so register early. Click here for registration!
