Sarahnade (After Brahms) (1997)

Sarahnade is based on recordings of my daughter Sarah crying when she was 6 months old.  This was then spectrally merged and morphed with a recording of the aria Fantouche by Claude Debussy, and then run through a series of narrowly tuned filters “playing” the Brahms’ lullaby.  The relationship between a baby’s cry and a beautiful aria congers the sense that, to a parent, there is no difference between the two.
