(Students in ECE interested in taking this course should talk to Prof Dan Katz about how it can be incorporated into their plan of study).
This course is designed for undergraduate students who are already taking part in scientific computing research projects at LSU. The course will help prepare students for graduate level research by providing expertise, experience and confidence in scientific communication, independent learning, and a range of relevant technologies. Specifically, during the semester, each student will:
- Prepare and present a media-enabled seminar to the class on their research work.
- Research a review paper in the area of their research and prepare and present a pedagogical seminar to the class
- Attend other student presentations and contribute to discussion and questions
- Write a research paper on their undergraduate research suitable for publication.
- Produce a technical poster on their undergraduate research.
- Students will additionally learn basic scientific computing research skills through tutorials e.g. UNIX, latex, perl, technical writing, graphing packages, scientific visualization, grid computing, proposal writing.
The students will receive instruction on research funding in the US and applying for graduate school. The student papers will be faculty reviewed and those with acceptable quality will be published online in a student research paper series that will be established at CCT.
