Sean O'Connell
I am currently a graduate student at LSU studying towards getting a Masters and PhD in Computer Science. My areas of interest lie in 3D graphics rendering algorithms and software engineering. I have been programming in C++ for 13 years and have experience in C#, VB.NET, Perl, PHP and a lot of the other 'made for idiots' languages :-).
I have always had a great interest in game programming, especially the design of the core engine architecture as well as the rendering algorithms employed. I've been writing graphics demos and applications in OpenGL for 5 years and have developed commercial terrain editing software called Freeworld3D. I am currently working on a number of personal projects meant for commercial use including a cross-platform GUI toolkit written in C++, which uses OpenGL as the back-end renderer. I am also slowly but surely working on the 3rd version of my terrain editing software.
My current direction for my Master's thesis is a systems design project involving virtual reality, augmented reality and the use of various other devices all meant to work in synergy to accomplish a greater sense of immersion. For my PhD I plan on doing research in the area of 3D volumetric rendering and other related graphics techniques, NOT solely geared towards scientific computing though.
For our BUGS video game, I have written in the base framework architecture for handling state transitions, the Artificial Intelligence code, the integration of the Nintendo Wii Remotes, as well as assisting in graphics rendering code.
