HPC Camp

July 30-August 2, 2007

Louisiana State University
3rd Floor Frey Computing Services Center
9:00 AM – 4:30 PM Daily

The HPC Boot Camp will introduce high school students to the basics of high performance computing (HPC) and will guide high school teachers in ways to incorporate HPC into their computer science curriculum. Teams will build a compute node from scratch and will also experience the process of attaching several nodes together to create a small cluster computer or mini-supercomputer. The camp introduces real world applications of HPC and explores the basics of parallel programming, providing participants with the unique experience of writing and running simple codes on their newly created clusters. By the end of day four, the students and teachers participating in the HPC Boot Camp will have a better understanding and appreciation of HPC, and through continued access to their clusters, the teams will be able to nurture and grow their understanding and appreciation of HPC throughout the following school year.

Teams/schools are pre-selected. For more information, contact Katie Lea, Education Outreach Manager at CCT, (225) 578-8988.
