CCT researchers focus on making the center a partner to the community of the state, the nation and the world. To fulfill this goal and foster greater understanding of technology and computational science, CCT hosts a variety of education and outreach activities to develop the knowledge, skill-sets and careers of a wide spectrum of individuals, including K-12 students and the public at large.
CCT hosts other outreach events that are more casual. Faculty and staff conduct public research demonstrations and give regular tours of CCT's high-performance computing resources.
CCT faculty and staff regularly give lectures and are hosted as visitors at other universities and research institutions around the world to tell national and international audiences about activities at the center. CCT also hosts a booth at the Supercomputing and SIGGRAPH conferences annually.
Past CCT Outreach Activities: JUNE 2007 -- The Digital Arts and Technology Camp: a five-day seminar on the latest innovations in animation and digital media. In the camp, students learned basic digital concepts, artistic requirements and creative processes. Teachers at the Digital Art and Technology Camp hosted seminars on drawing concepts, scriptwriting, storyboarding, story telling and animation.
JULY 2007 -- The High-Performance Computing Boot Camp: students worked under Chief Scientist Thomas Sterling's direction to build basic supercomputing clusters, then used them for applications. Sterling instructed them in hardware and software concepts. After the camp, the students and teachers were able to bring the clusters back to their classrooms to use in further lesson plans.
The 2005 Association for Computing Machinery South Central Regional Programming Contest. This activity was hosted by CCT and the LSU computer science department and was an opportunity for outreach to undergraduate students
