IT Analyst: Java Portal Developer

Summary of Position:

This position is for a mid-level Java developer to join LSU CCT in its small Portals development team. We are working to develop Portals as collaborative environments for management of scientific data, jobs and content. Using the GridSphere Portal Framework (http://www.gridsphere.org/), we will develop many Portlets (small components for Portals) that interface with client applications as well as third-party software that provide additional capabilities. This position contains many research components and will require the ability to adapt to a rapidly changing software environment.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Communicate with users to analyze requirements and develop appropriate architecture & design for user-oriented systems.
  • Code & test Portlet system components and oversee deliverable quality
  • Install, configure, and utilize J2EE components to create proof-of-concept implementations to demonstrate capabilities
  • Install and configure demos for displaying the latest status of development
  • Develop & present technical content to potential collaborators
  • Provide technical support to user and technical groups who are using the LSU CCT Portal and/or the Portlets developed at LSU CCT
  • Help write technical and high level content for research papers
  • Position requires the ability to travel, although not extensively
Examples of desired skill set and experience:
  • BS or BA in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • 4+ years experience implementing web technologies, at least two years full-time work experience using Java & JSP
  • Excellent technical problem solving skills and programming ability in JAVA, JSP, Servlets, CSS, and DHTML required.
  • Development experience with a Portal Server (WebSphere/BEA WebLogic/GridSphere/etc), UML, Portlets preferred.
  • Web Services development experience desirable (e.g. XML, SOAP, WSDL, and UDDI)
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of Java web technologies, Patterns/Frameworks. Strong understanding of the MVC pattern.
  • Competence with a Unix like operating system (e.g. Linux, BSD, Solaris)
  • Self motivated and able to work highly independently and thrive in a dynamic, changing technology environment
