BATON ROUGE – Disney’s upcoming feature film, “The Princess and the Frog,” takes place in Louisiana, and audiences in the state’s capital will be among the first in the world to get a sneak preview as part of the Red Stick International Animation Festival on Friday, April 24, at 5:30 p.m. in the Manship Theatre.
“The Princess and the Frog” is set in New Orleans. Marlon West of Walt Disney Animation Studios will introduce the preview of the film, which will be released at Thanksgiving 2009. This is an exclusive, abbreviated preview available only to audiences at the Red Stick International Animation Festival.
West, who was visual effects supervisor for “Princess and the Frog,” began working for Disney during production of “The Lion King,” as a 2D animator. “Princess and the Frog” marks Disney’s return to this style of animation, as most of their recent films have been digital. West will talk about his experiences doing another 2D film for Disney, and will discuss the studio’s return to this medium with their upcoming film.
Following the “Princess and the Frog” preview, audiences can enjoy a free screening of Disney’s 2008 film, “Bolt,” at 6 p.m. Stuart Sumida, who consulted on the film, will give a brief introduction and discuss his work on the “Biology of Bolt.
The festival will host a Princess Ball for young girls at the Old State Capitol starting at 7 p.m. Princesses of all ages are invited to come and dance with their princes – fathers, brothers, uncles, grandfathers or best friends.
These events are free, but participants must register for a complimentary Red Pass, available at http://redstickfestival.org/redpass.asp, to attend. Seating in all Red Stick venues is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
For a complete schedule of Red Stick events and more information about the festival, please visit www.redstickfestival.org or contact the festival office at 225-389-7182.
LSU’s Center for Computation & Technology sponsors the festival, in partnership with the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, Baton Rouge Area Foundation, East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President’s Office, Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism and Louisiana Economic Development.
