BATON ROUGE --- The 2008 Red Stick International Animation Festival features a plethora of exciting activities for families that highlight the intersections among art, technology and computer science.

Red Stick, an annual event that highlights the latest trends in animation, video game design and other forms of digital art, will take place at various downtown Baton Rouge locations April 16-19, 2008.

The festival is sponsored by the LSU Center for Computation & Technology in partnership with the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, Baton Rouge Area Foundation, East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President’s Office, Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism and Louisiana Economic Development.

This year’s festival offers free film screenings around downtown -- primarily at the Old State Capitol, Shaw Center for the Arts, Manship Theatre and Louisiana Art and Science Museum. Festival-goers can log on to www.redstickfestival.org to register for a free Red Pass to attend all festival film screenings. This year, Red Stick will show as many films as possible in high-definition or 35 mm for the best viewing experience.

Red Stick will again feature the annual Saturday morning highlight, Cartoon-a-Palooza at the Old State Capitol, which will begin at 9:30 a.m. on April 19. The voice of “Scooby-Doo,” Scott Innes, will attend Cartoon a Palooza to show one of his Scooby Doo films and sign autographs for children. Following that, children are invited to gather on the Old State Capitol lawn for face-painting, spacewalk jumping, clowns and more outdoor fun. The Baton Rouge Cartoonists Society will host a special drawing and animation workshop for children at 1 p.m. in the Old State Capitol Senate Chamber.

This year, Red Stick also will host the first “Enchanted Evening: Princess Ball: on Friday, April 18 at 7 p.m. in the Old State Capitol Senate Chamber. Girls are invited to come dressed up in their ball gown finery and learn how to dance with their father, brother, uncle, grandfather or best friend. Red Stick will award a prize to the girl wearing the prettiest dancing slippers. The event is free, but families are asked to make a $5 donation to support The Girl Scouts-Audubon chapter, The Boys and Girls Club of Baton Rouge and the Old State Capitol.

And, there will be Christmas in April on Saturday night, April 19, when Red Stick hosts the worldwide premier of Comet Entertainment’s new, family-friendly holiday film, “Santa vs. Claus” at 7 p.m. in the Manship Theatre. Santa himself will make an appearance to share cookies and milk with the children beginning at 6:15 p.m. He also will be available for photos and early Christmas wish list requests.
