BATON ROUGE – The Red Stick International Animation Festival has 207 films from 27 countries registered for its annual “Best of the Fest” animation competition. The 2008 festival will take place April 16-19 in downtown Baton Rouge.
The festival accepted entries from Aug. 1 through Dec. 17. Participants could enter their animation work in 10 categories:
• Animated Short Film – Student
• Animated Short Film – Professional
• Music Video
• Scientific Visualization
• Animation for Commercials
• Animation for Games
• Animation for Young Audiences
• Experimental Animation/Visual Music – Student
• Experimental Animation/Visual Music – Professional
• Storyboard Competition
The Red Stick film screenings will feature the competition entries, and judges will select and announce the winners during the festival.
The first festival, in 2005, drew 106 entries from 13 countries, the 2006 festival brought 158 entries from 28 countries and the 2007 festival received more than 200 entries from 30 countries.

The festival features free animation screenings, workshops and lectures from industry professionals and events for children. The festival takes place at the Shaw Center for the Arts, Louisiana Art and Science Museum, Old State Capitol and Manship Theatre.
