Ed Seidel, director of LSU's Center for Computational Technology, has won the Sidney Fernbach Memorial Award, one of the world's most prestigious awards in the field of computational sciences. Seidel, who came to LSU from Germany's Albert Einstein Institute in 2003, will be officially presented with the award next month at the 2006 Supercomputing Conference in Tampa. Established in 1992, the prize recognizes innovative approaches in the application of high-performance computing. Seidel was chosen for his work on software development for high-speed and grid computing that helps to better unravel complex physics problems -- in particular modeling what happens when black holes collide.
