BATON ROUGE – Ravi Sethi, president of Avaya Labs, will speak at LSU Tuesday, June 9, as part of the University’s IT Eminent Lecture Series.
Sethi will discuss new voice and data communication breakthroughs, predicting which of these emerging technologies are most likely to have a lasting impact on the workplace, based on previous trends and research.
His lecture, “Enduring Themes in Voice and Data Communications for Enterprises,” will take place Tuesday, June 9, at 1:30 p.m. in Coates Hall Room 145. This lecture is free and open to the public, and media are invited to attend and take photographs. A reception with drinks and refreshments will take place following Sethi’s lecture.
Sethi joined Avaya in May 2000 to launch a research program examining enterprise communication as the company formed from Bell Labs. In this position, Sethi, who previously was senior vice president for communications sciences research at Bell Labs, attracted key personnel and helped develop Avaya. Today, the company has become a worldwide leader in enterprise communication systems. Sethi became president of Avaya Labs in October 2000.
In addition to his work at Avaya, Sethi has served on advisory councils for the National Science Foundation, Princeton University, the University of California at Riverside, Penn State and the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez. Sethi also has served on the Board of Directors of Avaya GlobalConnect, a public company in India. He has a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, specializing in computer science, from Princeton University and a bachelor of technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur.
The IT Eminent Lecture Series is a joint initiative between the LSU Center for Computation & Technology, or CCT, and the LSU Department of Computer Science to feature distinguished researchers who have in some way advanced computational science and its related disciplines or technologies. These lectures take place on the LSU campus throughout the year.
