Featured Student

Promita Chakraborty

Promita received her MS and BS in Computer Applications and Mathematics respectively from Kalyani University and Calcutta University, India. She spent a couple of years working in Indian Statistical Institute and Siemens, India, in the areas of Algorithm and Communication. Since August 2005 she is in Louisiana State University as a doctoral student in Computer Science department. Currently she is working at CCT, LSU, as a graduate research assistant in Grid Computing, developing a grid portal for UCoMS(Reservoir Simulation) users. Her research interests include grid computing and communication, and their applications in biology.

What is your favorite part about working at CCT?
What I like most about CCT is their mission to work as a group. It is very inspiring. Also the students are encouraged to attend talks and conferences which build up their confidence and competence. I got a student scholarship to attend the Global Grid Forum 18(GGF 18) and it had been very rewarding.
What type of research and what projects are you currently working on?
I am currently working on the portal development of the UCoMS project which deals with the reservoir analysis.
How are your relationships with your mentors?
My advisor in Gabrielle Allen. The project manager of UCoMS is Zhou Lei. It is a pleasure working under them. Also, the UCoMS team is great!
Where do you see yourself after you graduate from LSU?
I would like to join a university as a faculty member, or as a researcher in some organization.
