Students attending the camp will work hands-on with LSU researchers from the CyberTools project, a statewide, National Science Foundation-funded effort to build new supercomputing tools. Students will be introduced to computational science, supercomputing and its supporting technologies, tools and applications. They will run applications on LSU’s supercomputers, experiment with scientific visualization to build 3-D storm surge and hurricane animations, use a Play Station 3 as a computer and conduct basic programming exercises, among other activities. This camp is introductory and will cover topics that stretch across all academic disciplines. Students do not need a strong computational science background to participate. APPLICATIONS will be accepted through October 30, 2008: Interested Baton Rouge (and surrounding area) high schools with an in depth computer science program are asked to submit a short (2 page maximum) written description of how this program would benefit the school and students, including information regarding your current computer science resources and curricula, how attending this camp would improve or enhance your computer science activities, and why your students would benefit from this in terms of their future educational and career goals. Applications should be submitted to: kjones@lsu.edu or fax: 225-578-8902. Selected schools will be notified by December 2, 2008. WHO: High School computer science teachers and students.
